How to: Remove Wine Bottle Labels / Halloween Decor

You probably know by now that I love to turn trash into treasure.  I've shown you how to create your own "milk bottles" and how to reuse plastic containers in your kitchen.  This how-to is to explain how I take labels off of wine bottles and turn them into decor!

First, you have to drink some wine, which isn't too bad of a step one if you ask me!  I've been collecting these wine bottles and finally have an idea of how to decorate them.  Before we make some decor, we must take off the labels!

Here is how I get the labels off of wine bottles:
1.  Fill your sink with some warn soapy water.

2.  Toss in the wine bottles and let them soak.  You should be able to see the labels start to get soggy as they darken in color.

3.  Start to peel the labels off by any corner.  If the label is fully "wet" it should come off fairly easily.  If the label rips as you peel it, toss the bottle back into the warm bottle bath to continue to soak.

4.  If you have any "goo" left on the bottle after peeling the label off, use a magic eraser or goo-b-gone.

5. Wash and dry the bottles!

Once the bottles are dry, they are ready to paint! I decided to make three sets:  Frankenstein, Jack-o-lantern, and Ghost!

I used acrylic paint and a foam brush to paint the bottles.  It took a few coats, but once the first layer of color was dry, it was ready to turn them into characters!

There you go, easy peasy Halloween decor, from some "trash" you were going to recycle!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

I decided to make my staple witch hat cookies this year.  They are super easy and delicious!  (Try this to make them into a Thanksgiving Treat!)

Also, I used these printables to decorate some water bottles that we drank while passing out candy and watching Halloween movies!

Please share links to your party treats in the comments!

Halloween Party Time

Although I am REALLY enjoying Fall this year, I am still not a HUGE fan of Halloween (I admit, I am a scaredy cat!!)  However, I can up with "not so scary, but still Halloween-themed" party theme last year, and this year I have made it even better

Use these Water Bottle labels to decorate some boring ol' water bottles.

I like using the colors purple and green, just to be different!

Don't forget some candy!!

Get the printables on the Freebies Page!

Need an idea of some "not so scary" movies to watch?  Try these:

Practical Magic
Bed knobs and Broomsticks
Hocus Pocus
Corpse Bride
Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 and 4

There you have it!  A wonderful "not so scary" Halloween event!

How To: Witch Hat Cookies

Need a last minute and easy to make Halloween Treat?  Make some Witch’s Hat Cookies!  (This "How To" is totally kid friendly too!)

Bill of Materials:
Keebler Fudge Stripes Cookies
Hershey Kisses
White Icing
Yellow and Red (or Orange) Food Coloring
Ziploc or Icing Bag

First:  Gather up your supplies, and make space for your project on your kitchen table or counter.

TIP:  When buying supplies, make sure you buy extra cookies than what you need.  Sometimes the Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookies aren’t in one piece by the time you get them home.  (Or you might have little fingers steal one or two in the process!)

Second:  Mix Icing with food coloring to get that perfect “Halloween” Orange, put into a ziplock bag and cut off corner (or use icing bag if you have one).

Third:  Take wrappers off Hershey kisses

Fourth:  Lay cookies upside down on your work place.

Fifth:  Put a thick circle of icing around the circle in the middle of the cookie.

Sixth:  Place kiss on cookie.

I decided to make my witch hats extra girly by adding bow streamers to the “band”.

I hope you enjoy!  Happy Halloween!

Girls Night In: A Boo-tiful Evening! {Freebies}

I’m not the biggest fan of Halloween because I’m not very fond of scary things.  I usually have to turn off the TV during commercials during October because of all the scary movie trailers.  Due to this “dislike” of scary stuff and also because any non-scary Halloween theme is usually for small children, I decided to create a Girl’s Night In for mature, classy  ladies whom aren't a fan of scary movies.

I love Girl’s Night Ins, whether it’s for couple friends or a crowd, its the perfect way to chill with the girls.  I like to describe Girls nights In as a mature slumber party (where most of the guests usually go home) for adult females that just want to “chillax” at home and watch a movie with friends while eating junk food (well it doesn’t have to be junk food, but I like junk food!).

Here is how I picture this event being organized:

Theme:  A Boo –tiful Evening…

Who:  You and your girl friends!

What:  GNI (Girls Night In) to celebrate Halloween, but in a not so scary way.

Where:  Your house or a friend’s house

When:  A weekend in October

Colors:  Black, Lime Green, and Purple (I like this color combo rather than the typical Black and Orange.)

Entertainment:  Watch movies or just mingle with new and old friends.

Here is a list of not so scary Halloween Movies:
     Practical Magic
     Bed knobs and Broomsticks
     Hocus Pocus
     Corpse Bride
     Scary Movie 1, 2, 3 and 4

Decorations:  I have a few {freebie} ideas including matching water bottle labels, Cupcake decorations, and food labels if you are having using buffet style for food.  All you have to do it “Like” Classy Event Organizer on Facebook and they are yours!  {Now all you have to do it  download the file from the FREEBIES page!}  Have fun and be creative!
